Knowing the Truth: Do you want a Deep Tissue Massage or just more pressure?
By: Soap Nop, Licensed Massage Therapist
Each of us has our own comfort level of applied pressure during a massage. Some like light strokes while others desire a more firm penetrating treatment. Unfortunately, this creates confusion between a “Deep Tissue Massage” and simply having the therapist apply more pressure during a typical “Swedish Massage.”
A “Deep Tissue Massage” is characterized by very slow, gradually deepening pressure, parallel with muscle fibers. It relaxes and elongates tightened muscle and fascia. This type of bodywork takes longer to administer and to receive its benefits. As a result, in a typical one hour session, a therapist may only
be able to perform “Deep Tissue” on one or two areas. For example, if you have chronic back problems, you may benefit from a “Deep Tissue Massage” session focused only on your back. It is not practical to expect “Deep Tissue” techniques performed over your whole body in a one hour session.
For “Swedish Massage” fans, it is possible for your therapist to integrate “Deep Tissue” on trouble spots. This can create a nice “Swedish” and “Deep Tissue Massage” blend, giving you a relaxing, therapeutic experience.

No Pain… Your Gain!
By: Dee Dee Nop, Licensed Massage Therapist
When you step out of bed in the morning, is it difficult to walk? Many of us have foot pain and don’t know why. There could be many reasons as to why your feet hurt in the morning or at any other time. Foot care is essential! It’s important to wear well-fitting shoes. When possible, walk barefoot to stimulate the reflexes on the feet. Make sure you take care of hard skin on the feet; calloused and hard feet can affect the reflexes.
Plantar Fasciitis is a big problem for a lot of people. This is caused by inadequate stretching of the calf muscles, increase in activity, being overweight, lack of arch support, and just plain spending too much time on the feet. While sometimes it seems like you could not tolerate for anyone to touch your feet, massage is one of the best things you can do for Plantar Fasciitis.
